The Atkin Parlor Dustbowl has a Mahogany Top, Mahogany Back & Sides, Mahogany Vintage V Neck, Indian Rosewood Fingerboard & Bridge, 24.7/16” Scale Length, Open Gear Tuners, Incl. Hard Case.
The Dust Bowl series from Atkin takes “vintage-inspired” to the next level. The main inspiration for these guitars are the lightweight, characterful depression-era guitars of the 1930s - names such as Kalamazoo, Recording King, Cromwell, and Kel Kroyden will spring to mind for fans of such instruments. Each Dust Bowl guitar is made from solid mahogany with a lightweight scalloped bracing, giving the player a full, rich and dry voice that embodies those ever sought-after pre-war tones.
A personal favourite of at least one of Guitar Village’s team members, the Dust Bowl Parlour from Atkin is a supreme testament to Atkin’s luthiery. A tiny body of only 19” in length and a lower bout measuring less than 14”, one would expect this guitar to be exclusively a delicate, subtle instrument. Nothing could be further from the truth for this powerhouse of a guitar. While of course delicate fingerstyle arrangements are the forte of such an instrument, the Dust Bowl Parlour has a deceptively deep bass and mid range that mean strummed chords and background accompaniment are equally well within this guitar’s reach. A slotted headstock and 12-fret body join of course pay homage to historical parlour guitars, with the additional modern conveniences of a subtle V-shape neck and truss rod for neck adjustments.
