Atkin Guitars is a British luthier brand founded in 1995 by Alister Atkin in Canterbury, England. Initially working from a small workshop, Atkin built a reputation through repair and restoration work, particularly on vintage American acoustics. This hands-on experience heavily informed the company’s design philosophy, emphasising traditional construction methods and tonal authenticity.
By the early 2000s, Atkin shifted focus toward producing its own line of steel-string acoustic guitars. Drawing inspiration from pre-war instruments by makers. Atkin guitars became known for their understated aesthetics, lightweight builds, and responsive, “played-in” tone. A defining feature of the brand is its use of torrefied (“baked”) woods, which replicate the aged characteristics of vintage instruments.
Production remained deliberately small-scale, with each guitar handcrafted in the UK.
