Taylor Guitars was founded in 1974 by Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug, and has grown into a leading global builder of premium acoustic guitars. With their headquarters in El Cajon, California, Taylor employs over 900 people and produces hundreds of quality acoustic guitars each day.

With an emphasis on modern manufacturing techniques and attention to detail, Taylor acoustic guitars are known the world over for their big, bright sound, traditional yet modern looks and incredible playability. Taylor’s design allows for a slim neck profile and low action making them perfect for players more used to the comfort and playability of electric guitars.

Reinventing the Acoustic Guitar

Taylor’s patented NT (New Technology) neck design first appeared in 1999 and became a standard feature on Taylor guitars by 2001.  The NT neck is built from a continuous piece of wood that supports the fretboard all the way up to the 19th fret whereas traditional necks lose that support at the 14th. The result is a neck that remains perfectly straight and stable, making it one of the industry’s most playable and easy to adjust acoustic necks.

The introduction of the Taylor Expression System (ES) pickup was another game changer for Taylor guitars. The original Expression System, designed in collaboration with audio equipment legend Rupert Neve, combined strategically placed body sensors and a magnetic pickup under the fingerboard to produce a naturalistic acoustic sound and response when amplified. A vast improvement on the standard under-saddle piezo set-up that had been been in use for decades.
In 2014, Taylor introduced the updated Expression System 2 (ES2). The heart of the Expression System 2 is Taylor’s patented behind-the-saddle pickup, which features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. The location of the sensors enables a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured than ever before.

Responsibly Made

Taylor have always been at the forefront of guitar manufacturing but it doesn’t end there. Their forward thinking approach to guitar building is matched by their approach to reliable wood sourcing, ethical wood harvesting and active reforestation.

THE LINE UP

The Taylor range covers everything from student and travel instruments to professional and collector’s editions. Every guitar has been thoroughly researched and designed to produce the best possible instrument for the job.
The model numbers are easy to understand: core models belong within a series – 100-900, Academy, GS Mini, Baby, Presentation Series, etc. – then the body size is denoted by the numbers 10 (Dreadnought), 12 (Grand Concert), 14 (Grand Auditorium), 16 (Grand Symphony/Jumbo). The letter e means electric pickup and ce cutaway/electric.
