The National Electric Spanish has a Birch Top, Birch Back & Sides, Chunky V Mahogany Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, Waverly Open Gear Tuners, Original Large Lapsteel Pickup, Incl. Non-Original Hard Case.
Our mid-1930s National Electric Spanish guitar is an incredible piece of musical history. Having legitimate claim to be one of the very first electric "Spanish-style" guitars ever made, these guitars are not only rare but represent a crucial transitional period in the history of guitar luthierie. The pickup is large, heavy, and sounds fantastic with a surprisingly big output. It is believed that these pickups are factory-modified lapsteel pickups, manufactured as part of the National-owned Supro brand.
Approaching 90 years of age, our National Electric Spanish has had a few repairs. The guitar has been refretted with a new bone nut. Waverly open gear tuners have been fitted, with holes filled from the previous tuners. The headstock has been repaired from a possible break and has been resprayed on the front and back. A new National decal has been added (we believe this guitar would originally have had a Supro decal). Cracks have been repaired around the jack socket. Some internal braces have been repaired and reinforced.
