The Chthonic Fuzz (pronounced: THAH-nik) creates fat, corpulent, fudgy, sludgy, fuzz tones designed to pair perfectly with single-coil, P90, gold-foil, and DeArmond style pickups. It also works great with PAF-style humbuckers, but this fuzz was designed with brighter guitars and bright, clean amps in mind.

Starting with a beloved single-knob ‘70’s fuzz circuit, we experimented with adding a subtle tone control (Lustre), and then a separate gain control (Fuzz). This yielded a simple yet powerful fuzz with an earthy, dark flavor. Straight-up transistor clipping using a pair of 2N2222 transistors allows guitar volume knob clean-up similar to other classic fuzzes, but the Chthonic comes from a different dimension. Think of it as a kind of classic fuzz from an alternate universe.

The Chthonic’s Kraken/Cthulhu graphics are courtesy of the same artist that did the Carcosa Fuzz art. The Chthonic is a psychotic dizygotic dark companion to the Carcosa Fuzz that takes its place in the pantheon of the underworld.

Placement of the DOD Chthonic Fuzz:

The Cthonic Fuzz is designed to be first in the chain. This will allow it to interact with the guitar pickups and volume control. Rolling of the guitar volume just a tiny bit will yield the best  results, and rolling it back to 7 or 8 will allow the Chthonic to clean-up to a nice overdrive. Rolling the guitar volume to 5 will yield sparkling clean tones. This sensitivity also makes the Chthonic react to the capacitance of longer cables, so try to keep the cable to the input to the Chthonic as short as possible. Also avoid having any pedals before the Chthonic as the buffer will effect the tone.

Setup of the DOD Chthonic Fuzz:

Start with all the controls at 12:00, their midpoint. Then adjust to taste. If the result is too extreme, then turn the Fuzz and Lustre controls down to a lower setting. All settings will be heavily dependent on the output level of your instrument, your amplifier, and playing style.

Real time stock levels

Fed up with websites advertising guitar that they don’t actually have? So are we! The Guitar Village website is updated in real-time, so that means the second we sell out of a guitar the website will say ‘out of stock’. If it says ‘In Stock’, rest assured we do actually have it in stock and ready to go!

Actual image photography

We don’t want you to have any nasty surprises when you receive a guitar from us so we do our own photography in-house.

Any high-end guitar with a figured finish or unique features will have its own images. If you see “✓ Actual product in photograph(s)” next to the product listing, this will be the actual item you receive.

Any guitar priced under £2000 with an opaque/block finish, or lightly figured woods may have an example image of the guitar.

If you’re not a million miles away not come in and collect it from the shop? All you need to do it select “Collect from store” at the checkout, pay in full online then pop in with proof of purchase, along with some photo ID* and you can take it away right then and there!

*Photo ID must be a valid passport or driving license.

Ex Demo/New Old Stock Products

Occasionally we list items as ‘Ex Demo’ or ‘New Old Stock’. These are new but may not necessarily be in perfect condition and could have had minor repairs, marks, scratches and/or other defects.

These will be fully described and discounted accordingly.

At Guitar Village we're committed to offering you the very best shopping experience possible. We strive to provide you with an unmatched choice of guitars as well as our award-winning friendly customer service, combined with the best prices in the UK. Occasionally the odd price pops up a little cheaper somewhere else. We don't want any of our customers to ever have to decide between our high level of service and a lower price, so we will always endeavour to price match our UK competitors.

To qualify for a price match it must be:

  • From an official authorised dealer,
  • Identical to the product we are selling (model, colour, specs),
  • In stock and ready to ship,
  • Clearly advertised at the cheaper price on their website (not a price quoted over the phone),
  • An outright purchase price, not including finance, part exchange or any other offer.

Usually these cheaper prices are offered by online-only warehouse retailers with little overheads and a "stack 'em high, sell 'em cheap" philosophy, sacrificing the customer service that's essential to back-up any purchase.

When you buy from Guitar Village you can rest assured that your item will be:

  • In stock if the website says it is,
  • Guitars fully setup to any given requirements by one of our full time in-house guitar techs prior to dispatch,
  • Triple checked through our extensive quality control,
  • Safely and securely packaged, then dispatched using UPS - fully tracked and insured,
  • Full after-sales customer support.
