Resonator guitars make you feel at home with their distinctive, booming, and vintage sound. Made with either wooden or metal bodies, these types of guitars are built with a resonator cone section which amplifies their sound.
Whether you’re looking for your first resonator, or adding another fine instrument to your collection, we’ve got a wide selection of new, vintage, and pre-owned resonators!
Resonators are commonly used in bluegrass genres and roots music. Whether you’re a slick blues slide guitarist, or want something a bit more retro for your local folk session, our resonator collection has something for everyone. Pop in-store, or contact us and start your search today.
Resonator guitars are best set up with phosphor bronze strings. We would recommend the D’Addario EJ17 strings or the Elixir Medium gauge. The key thing to remember is that a resonator is, at its core, an acoustic guitar: your favourite acoustic guitar strings will work on your resonator! If you have any other questions regarding the best strings to use, feel free to contact our expert team.
Resonators and acoustics are pretty similar, but they produce sound differently. Resonators are louder than acoustics, as they use metal cones to amplify the vibrations made by the strings. An acoustic guitar uses a hollow wooden body to amplify the sound. Do check out our six-part blog or YouTube video detailing the history of resonator guitars.
