Initially conceived as a part of Martin & Co to release Japanese-made guitars that could compete with the lower costs of guitars imported from Asia, Sigma operated from 1970 until 2007 when Martin & Co discontinued the line. The name and rights were subsequently acquired by AMI Musical Instruments GmbH which oversaw a relaunch of the brand. Today Sigma are a well-established company in their own right. The iconic Sigma crest is recognised across the world as a mark of quality and attention to detail.
