JOHN PETRUCCI | MUSIC MAN

By Mark Johnson: November 5, 2015

Music Man was founded in the early seventies by Leo Fender, Tom Walker and Forest White. After several early name changes the founders settled of the name Music Man and as they say the rest is history. Musicman have been producing high quality guitars and basses for over forty years now crafting instruments for some of the world’s top players. Two such players coming from the same band – Dream Theater’s John Myung uses Bongo basses and John Petrucci has several signature models which have evolved over his fifteen-plus years involvement with Music Man. These models include the JP6, JP7, BFR models, annually upgraded signature models, and the radically reimagined Majesty.

Dream Theater are a progressive metal band formed in 1985 (under the name Majesty) by John Petrucci, John Myung and Mike Portnoy whilst they were attending Berklee College Of Music. With a back catalogue of over thirty studio/live albums Dream Theater have sold over 12 million records worldwide. The guitar virtuoso behind the outfit started playing at a tender age of twelve years old and has committed to saying he practiced for six hours a day when he discovered that guitar was his passion in life. John’s early influences included bands like Rush, Yes, Iron Maiden and Metallica, and is consistently ranked among the greatest guitarist of all time in various readers polls.
