Fender Bassbreaker Amplifiers

By Mark Johnson: April 25, 2016

During the late 1940’s, before the days of PA systems, Leo Fender was designing the first guitar amplifiers in his little shop in Fullerton, California. Before long everyone was plugging into Fender amplifiers and the company has been at the forefront of guitar amplification ever since. Early Fender amplifier models such as the Deluxe and Champ were responsible for changing the sound of modern music with their very unique, clean, bright and glassy sound and have been the back line choice for many musicians over the years.

This latest addition to the Fender Amplifier line has proven to be a real wolf in sheep’s clothing taking sounds from both past and present making this an extremely versatile animal indeed. The clue is in the name, taking a ’59 Bassman circuit which provides those legendary bright, clean tones and combining it with dual EL34’s which provide those overdriven tones heard in those early British amplifiers. Sonically this amplifier caters for every type of player and musical style, not only that but the flagship Bassbreaker 45 has an output level knob which takes the power from 45 watts right down to 1 watt so you can dial in those “sweet spots” whether you are at home, in the studio or performing live. The amplifier comes in a slick dark gray lacquered tweed covering with large refined pointer knobs for ease of use. The amplifier’s voice comes through two Celestion V-Type speakers providing a tight repsonse with “vocal” character. The Bassbreaker 45 also has three inputs – normal, bright and a ‘both input’ providing that channel-blend sound without the use of a patch cable.

This new range of Fender amplifiers is very impressive and has been very well thought out indeed featuring some very cool additions. Models available are:
